CHANGE THE BATTLE PLAN

Deuteronomy 20:12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

The Eagle 🦅 doesn't fight snakes on the ground. It takes it up to the sky to sweetchchange the battle ground to have advantage over the snake. It then releases the snake into the sky.

It is known that the snake 🐍 is disadvantaged in the sky, it has no stamina, no power and no balance in the air. It is useless, weak succeptible and vulnerable in the air. It is importent, weak and helpless unlike on the ground where it is subtle, swift, smart, powerful and deadly.

Come up hither, take your battles and  fights into the spiritual realm by consistent prayers and in the spirit. It is your place of advantage.

When you are up in the realm of the spirit God takes over your battles.

Don't fight the enemy in his comfort zone. Sweetchchange the battle plans and sweetchchange the battle ground and gain advantage over the advasery and your adversities, let God take charge and you will be sure of victory at the end.

Hallelujah!

By Divine Authority.

This too will pass.

CHANGE THE SOWING

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE HARVEST, CHANGE THE SOWING.

"Character is Everything" they said.

It is the first impression people can get about you, character is what you wear, your outlook, behavior and the impression people have you.

You can hide everything but not character, it is who you are when no one is seeing you, it's your personality, it affect the way you think, approach to day to day activities, relationship to God, Man, Job, Family and Business.

Your character is formed by your belief system, (Paradigm), attitude, cultural background, education, environment, behavior and habits.

Heraclitus Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States (US), said: “Nothing can stop the man with the *right mental attitude* from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the *wrong mental attitude*”

As a clergyman, I have watched pitiably how people self-sabotage themselves by seeking spiritual solutions to character-deficit issues.

They look around at everybody as suspects for their predicaments when their greatest demons lurks within them - their character.

What we often call our destiny is truly our character, and since that character can change, then destiny can be altered. *Character is destiny* .

Is prayer actually EVERYTHING? Many would begin to argue back and forth on this intriguing question, but my main purpose of writing this piece is not to get involved in arguments. *_Arguments don’t improve the validity of a ‘truth;’ they only determine how long it would take before you realise it._*

Most people believe that we can pray ourselves to success and get away with virtually anything if we become a stickler to some prayer routines. There is no amount of spiritual penance that can substitute for character. Sometimes, you need character, not prayer.

Dutch Sheets said: *“Prayer is not a check request asking for things from God; it is a deposit slip- a way of depositing God’s character into our bankrupt souls.”*

British writer and politician, Thomas Macaulay (1800-1859), said: “ *The measure of a man’s character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out.”* I have often said that what would ultimately destroy a man going to high places in life is not really the enemies that are waiting for him there, but the character that followed him there.

I want to emphatically underline the fact that this write-up is not meant to trivialise prayers in any way. I have observed that many people take character for granted, while overzealously tuning on into their spiritual mode.

We have become so spiritually in tune through prayers that we neglect the place of character and our relationship with people. Many are actually ‘heavenly’ bound, but with no earthly relevance. You can speak with spiritual eloquence, pray in public and maintain a holy appearance, but it is your behavior and character that will actually trigger the manifestation of all that God has for you.

*You must learn to treat people with courtesy* .

The Shunammite woman must have been praying for a child all through her life. By being hospitable to a man of God, she eventually got her much-awaited miracle. *It wasn’t prayer that opened the door for her; it was her character.* Assuming she wasn’t hospitable, she would have missed a critical miracle.

Many times, we pray, fast and bind demons that don’t exist when our real demons are just our greatly flawed character. _Many have insulted people that were divinely placed and orchestrated to help them fulfil their destiny._ Some people are keeping malice with their destiny helpers.

Treat people with respect.

Treat strangers with courtesy.

Never look down on anybody. God can use anyone to change your story.

Abigail Van Buren said: “The best index to a person’s character is _how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and how he treats people who can’t fight back.”_

You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him. The way we treat people we think can’t help or hurt us, like housekeepers, waiters, and secretaries, tells more about our character than how we treat people we think are important. _How do you treat people?_

One of the most impressive architectural feats and the greatest military defence project in history is the Great Wall of China. In 1987, UNESCO designated the Great Wall a World Heritage site, and a popular controversial claim that emerged in the 20th century holds that it is the only man-made structure that is visible from space.

Originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C.) in the 3rd Century B.C. as a means of preventing incursions from Mongolians and barbarian nomads into the Chinese Empire, the wall is one of the most extensive construction projects ever completed.

History has it that when the ancient Chinese decided to live in peace, they made the Great Wall of China; they thought no one could climb it due to its height. During the first 100 years of its existence, the Chinese were invaded thrice and every time, the hordes of enemy infantry had no need of penetrating or climbing over the wall, because each time, they bribed the guards and came through the doors.

The Chinese built the wall, but forgot the character - building of the wall-guards. Though the Great Wall has over the years become a powerful symbol of the country’s enduring strength and spirit, it has actually been a good reminder to the Chinese of the superiority of human character. How many people and homes had been invaded, looted and devasted by the enemy through the bribery of ego, self indulgence, insincerity and unfaithfulness. The scriptures says ." *while men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way".*

*The Chinese realised much later that the best defence against the enemy is not a fortified wall, but a fortified character. Thus, the building of human character comes before building of anything else*.

Prayer is not EVERYTHING! Build relationships, build your family and don’t ever forget that God will always use man. Be mindful of your words and how you speak to people. Work seriously on your character and attitude towards life.

I want to say emphatically that *character is not optional;*  it is sacrosanct to the future that God has planned for you and your home. No matter where you place prayers, character matters. *The greatest fraud in life is religion without character.* A man without character is recklessly alive.

William Shakespeare captured it succinctly when he said: *“The fault is not in our stars, but in ourselves* .”

Peter Schutz, the former chief executive officer of Porsche said: “ *HIRE CHARACTER; TRAIN SKILLS* .”

Lastly, back in the days when Germany was divided, a huge wall separated East and West Berlin.

One day, some people in East Berlin took a truck load of garbage and dumped it on the West Berlin side.

The people of West Berlin could have done the same thing, but they didn't.

Instead they took a truck load of canned foods, bread, milk and other provisions, and neatly stacked it on the East Berlin side.

On top of this stack they placed the sign:

*“EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS"*

How very true! You can only give what you have.

Be sincere ! What do you have inside of you?

Is it *hate* or *love* ?

 *Violence* or *peace* ?

 *Death* or *life* ?

*Capacity to build* or *capacity to destroy*

What have you acquired over the years?

*Team spirit* or *pull down* architecture ?

*"EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS"*

*My note:*

These words are worth reading over and over; they are worth our meditation and sharing

Indeed character is everything!

Time to end Jos crisis

TIME TO END JOS CRISIS

Neither Muslims nor Christians have benefitted since Nigeria has been bedevilled by insecurity crisis. So also is the case with ethnic groups. Both religions suffer massive destruction including lives and property, and at the same time putting the state’s progress in abeyance.

I want to use this medium to appeal to the great people of Plateau State and Nigeria at large to be peacekeepers and avoid engaging in conflict-related activities in the state, as well as to stay in peace and harmony with one another irrespective of religion, ethnicity and party affiliation.

Though crisis is human, it’s time to bring this barbaric act of ours to an end and concentrate on rebuilding the state’s lost glory as the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.

The state is multi-ethnic, diversely cultured and multi-religious in nature; we shouldn’t misuse these great advantages to retrogress the state.

Plateau State is one of the most blessed states in Nigeria and Africa at large in terms of natural resources, tourists centers, fertile land for agriculture among other natural endowments that attract both local and foreign investors.

But as result of crisis, there is nothing of such nature in Jos today. Both local and foreign investors have stopped coming to the state, talk less of investing their resources; as such, the number of unemployed youths increases day in day out. These unemployed youths are the violence escalators in the state today.

Back in the days, Jos used to be the only state in northern Nigeria full of activities ranging from mining, farming, blacksmithing, business, crafting among other artisanal work.

Furthermore, being a viable investment hub in the Nigerian tourism industry, it attracted millions of people from both inside and outside Nigeria for leisure.

But today, nobody wants to come or pass through Jos for fear of killings and attacks; the state loses millions of a naira daily.

The painful point is, we are tagged “Home of Peace and Tourism” but today, there is nothing like peace apart from blood-letting, hatred, envy, ethnicity, religious and communal clashes.

These have put the state and its people in a miserable life, as well as taking back the state to square zero.

Therefore, let us be peace lovers and take away the existing differences among us through showing love and compassion to one another, irrespective of our differences. We should always seek to love, not to control, learn to tolerate not to constrain, accept our differences not to reject, as well as taking responsibility for whatever happens to us not to blame others. This will help us

in rebuilding Plateau State

Plateau PFN condemns killings of 36 persons in  Jos North

August 27,2021

By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria ( P.F.N), Plateau State Chapter on Friday   strongly condemned the the massacre of approximately 36 people on Tuesday night of 24th August, 2021 by criminals elements.

PFN in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos and signed by  Rev. Dr. Steven Dangana, it's Chairman  commiserated with the families of the victims, the entire community and the good people of Plateau State over this unprovoked attack.

The statement further reads that "While we are still grooping with the senseless killings of innocent people in Irigwe land, the killing of commuters and now have woken up to yet another fresh attack in Yelwan Zankam."

" The Fellowship sees the inhumanity of these attacks as shocking and barbaric especially with 12 hours curfew of 6am to 6:00 pm still in place as the attack took place during this period. Indeed, the question of how the assailants got to the village even with a curfew in place needs to be answered by the security personnels covering the axis leading to the village. "

The Fellowship is dumb founded by the silence from both the Federal and State Governments on the recent continuous unabated killings and attacks in Irigwe land and Yelwan - Zangam as insensitive.

"We therefore ask Government as a matter of urgency to speak up and give a clear direction and hope to the good people of Plateau State.

P.F.N has always called on her members, especially the youth and young adults to pursue peace with all. But we are also quick to say that if this unprovoked attacks on members continue, unabated, we will now have no option than to ask our members to also defend themselves as we will not fold our hands and see our members killed without the effective restrain in arrests and prosecution by the Government. We wish to make it clear to authority that violence and injustice only lead to more violence hence the need to act very quickly and swiftly.

The Pentecostal Fellowship also   called on all security Agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property to rise to their responsibility and fish out the perpetrators, collaborators and sponsors no matter their connections or however highly placed they may be.

" We urge the Government to fully compensate families of all the victims and those who lost their properties and means of livelihood. Government should make effort not to engage in selective prosecutions and compensations. "

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (P.F.N.)  also stressed that it  will continue to work hand in hand with the Government and will continue to pray for a Lasting Peace , Unity and  Progress of Plateau State in particular and Nigeria in general.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT OF PLATEAU STATE

JOS CARNAGE: MY RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT OF PLATEAU STATE

H. E. Rev. Amb. Bright Samuel Otso today Friday 27th August 2021 from his country Home has this to say:

Haven observed the carnage and great conspiracy against the people of Plateau State from powers that be, I wish to make the following recommendations to the government of Plateau State;

1. Recruit 17,000 youth that are willing to work even for free for the safety of the only place they call their home with 1000 per L.G.A. into Operation Rainbow.

2. After that, send a bill to the State House of Assembly mandating a compulsory;

(a) Deduction of 1% of every worker's monthly salary

(b) Categorised charges on businesses in the state depending on their capacities

(c) Mandatory deduction of 2% of LGs monthly subventions

(d) Top whatever is accrued with your security vote

(e) Establish a special commission to manage that fund. The core mandate of the commission should be to direct the funds into;

(i) Payment of stipends to the Youth Volunteers

(ii) Provision of LOGISTICS generally to the operators within the armbits of the law.

You are constitutionally empowered to protect your people.

Don't waste your time assembling some so-called leaders in the name of "Peace Talks", because NOTHING will EVER come out of that since the attackers are never part of those meetings and the only language they understand is WAR. You must adopt legal strategies of matching them to their game.

Politicians and some religious leaders will deceive you that they have solutions to the problems, never listen to them because their interest is their pockets.

Running to the same people causing these crises will only worsen it.

Think outside the box sir.

A word is enough for the wise.

GOD DOESN'T PUT GREAT IDEAS IN A SMALL MINDS.

PLATEAU ATTACKS

Plateau Attacks: 85 killed, 55 injured, thousands displaced in Irigwe – TEKAN/ECWA alleges

Published

on

The TEKAN/ECWA bloc of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Monday alleged that over 85 persons were killed and more than 55 others hospitalized following herdsmen invasion in Irigwe chiefdom of Bassa LGA of Plateau State.

The church disclosed that 3, 141 houses were burnt within 18 days of the crisis in Irigwe.

The Christian alleged that within the same period about 1,520 houses were vandalized, 2, 901 farms destroyed and 5,901 families displaced as a result of attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The Church leaders maintained that more than 29,805 people have been displaced, more than 26 villages destroyed and 39 Communities affected in during the period under review. The leader of the TEKAN/ECWA Bloc of CAN, Rev. Moses Ebuga, while briefing journalists on the situation in Jos.

Ebuga said, “Recently the Irigwe land in Bassa LGA, of Plateau State has been in the news, over killings and destructions by Fulani herdsmen in the land.

“We would like to use this medium to give a report of what has happened as observed and recorded by the Church.

According to him, “From July 30th to August 17th, 2021, over 85 persons were killed, over 55 persons were hospitalized, over 3,141 houses were burnt, about 1,520 houses vandalized and 2, 901) farms destroyed, with 5,901 families displaced.

Adding that, “More than 29,805 people displaced, more than 26 villages destroyed, all within 39 Communities in Irigwe chiefdom of Bassa LGA.

“As Christians, and especially our Bloc on the Plateau cannot remain silent while its members and properties are destroyed by the Killer Fulani herders and militias, with no efforts by the government to stop these evil acts.

On the issue of the selective house search, the Christian body said, “It has also come to our notice and we have verifiable evidence that whenever there are government directives or security agencies proceed on a house search for weapons or any such item, such are being carried out among the natives who barely are able to defend themselves from their regular and aided attackers and are further rendered helpless and more vulnerable in the face of the usual house to house onslaught which has become their fate, but surprisingly, the killer Fulani herder roam about with weapons strapped on their bodies in the open glare of the same security agencies are untouchable.

“This is preposterous. We wish to state categorically that defence is a fundamental human right enshrined and protected by law and to this, we urge the government to be weary in invading the privacy of law-abiding and peaceful citizens and harassing them and dispossessing them of even common kitchen utensils.

“We are hereby calling on the security agents in the state to be sincere and non-partisan in pursuit of their responsibilities, as it seems to favour a select few or particular group”, he maintained.

FEAR NOT

Just Fear Not:

What Do We Fear?

Just Recently I came across a literary piece of work by Caty Medrano who published an article called top ten timeless human fears. These are the top fears shared by people everywhere. The list in many ways is self-explanatory.

10. Losing Your Freedom
9. The Unknown
8. Pain
7. Disappointment
6. Misery
5. Loneliness
4. Ridicule
3. Rejection
2. Death
1. Failure

Many of these fears are tied together, such as death and the unknown, rejection and ridicule, pain and misery, and failure and loneliness. We can also observe that these are mostly existential fears that describe an inner condition of the heart. That is, these are not fears of specific things.

In the latter category, I did some work answering the question, what scares Humans most? Especially in NIGERIA.

In order the answers are:

1. Snakes
2. Public Speaking
3. Heights
4. Being closed in a small space (prison)
5. Spiders
6. Needles (Injection) and getting shots
7. Mice
8. Flying on an airplane
9. Dogs
10. Thunder and lightning
11. Going to the doctor
12. The dark

13. Kidnapping

14. Boko Haram

15. Bandits

16. Fulani Militia

This is obviously a much more concrete list. I can identify with the part about snakes, heights, needles, and spiders. I fly so much that airplanes don’t bother me, and I speak so much that while I do get nervous sometimes, I don’t “fear” public speaking. I have no clue how dogs could possibly make that list. For Kidnapping I was kidnapped by Fulani Militia so, I no longer dear that. And while I may not fear the dark, I sometimes find little noises waking me up with a start in the middle of the night. We all have our fears, don’t we?

Why Do We Have Fear?

Fear is a basic human emotion:

Your list won’t be the same as mine, but we can all identify with some things on the second list and most of the first list. If we aren’t worried about mice, we certainly fear rejection by those we love. And we all think about our own death from time to time. When will it happen and under what circumstances? If we are wise, we also wonder, what then? I’m not surprised that fear of failure comes at the top for many people. How frustrating to feel like you’ve wasted your short sojourn on planet earth. It’s a terrible thing to conclude that your life was a bust because it didn’t turn out the way you hoped it would. Today, in Nigeria, the fear of Boko Haram, kidnappers, Bandits, Fulani Militia is for me the beginning of wisdom as they are lawless, precarious, beastly, heartless and unreasonable in all forms.

Somewhere in all our thinking, God has to figure into the equation. There must be a reason that the Bible tells us (in various ways and in various places) to “fear not” hundreds of times. Fear is such a basic human emotion that many of us constantly live in the grip of fear, worry, and anxiety. God told us to “fear not” because he knew that we would all wrestle with fear sooner or later.

God says hundreds of times in hundreds of ways "Fear not."

What do you do when your fears seem to be winning the day? What if you pray and God still hasn’t come through for you? If you are like most people, you begin to lose hope, and you wonder why you bothered to pray in the first place. Deep in the soil of your heart, little seeds of doubt take root, growing up into a harvest of frustration, resentment and anger.

It happens to most of us eventually. Some of the best men and women of the Bible struggled with their inner doubts when their dreams didn’t come true.A

I Am Your Shield"

“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ’Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your very great reward’” (Genesis 15:1).

There are at least four reasons Abram could have doubted God’s promise of a son:

1. He was too old.
2. Many years had passed since the promise had been given.
3. Nothing like this had ever happened before.
4. Sarah also doubted God’s promise.

When you think about it, there was no reason to believe--no reason except that God had promised to do it. The question now is simple: Will God’s promise be enough for Abraham
To all our fears, God says, "I am your shield."

In answer to that question, God declares, “I am your shield.” We should not think of a small shield that covers only the chest area, but rather of a shield that stretches from head to toe and completely protects every part of the soldier’s body. Such a shield offers complete protection from every attack of the enemy.

To call God our shield means two specific things:

1. He protects us in times of doubt.
2. He rescues us in times of danger.

Note that God does not say, “I will give you a shield,” but “I am your shield.” The very God of heaven says that he will be our shield, which means we have a shield that is omnipotent, universal, eternal. That shield cannot be defeated. It is as strong as God himself.

We could not be in a better position. Who can defeat us when God himself is our shield?

The great message is certainly clear. If God is your shield, fear not!

Immortal Until

It has been said that “a Christian is immortal until his work on earth is done." That statement means that nothing can harm you without God’s permission. Not cancer, not AIDS, not bankruptcy, not theft, not a physical disability, not the loss of your job, not a terrible accident, not the death of a child, not Fulani Militia, not any of a thousand other sorrows that afflict the children of God. Christians aren’t immune to sadness. What happens to others also happens to us. The difference is this. We know that God protects us from harm so that nothing can touch us that doesn’t first pass through his hands of love. That knowledge doesn’t mean that we don’t weep or we don’t suffer. Far from it. But it is the basis for the statement that “we sorrow but not as those who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 1:13. Our sorrow is different precisely because we hope in God.

"You can do nothing to me"

A missionary told me how she had nearly been put in jail when a hostile lawyer began harassing her and the local Christian hospital. He objected to the fact that the hospital openly did evangelism along with its compassionate medical care. Seeking a pretext for legal action, the lawyer accused the hospital of illegally selling intravenous fluid to its patients. It wasn’t true, but that didn’t matter. For nearly ten years the case bumped up and down the court system of that country. At one point several years ago it appeared likely that the missionary might either be thrown in jail or forced to leave the country. “I’m going to shut down this hospital,” the lawyer chortled, “And you’re going to jail or I’ll have you deported.”

Who can defeat us when God is our shield?

To which the missionary replied, “You can do nothing to me except what my God permits you to do.”

That’s a perfectly biblical answer. Our God is a shield around his people. Nothing can touch us except that which God permits.

Why God Delays His Answers

That brings us back to the central issue. Why did God wait so long to give Abraham a son? Abraham was seventy-five when God first spoke to him and one hundred when Isaac was finally born. He was almost eighty-five when God came to him and said, “Fear not.” After all these years God still wasn’t ready to answer Abraham’s prayers. Abraham was old, but he would be older yet before Isaac was finally born.

Of all the questions that plague the people of God, none is so vexing as the question of unanswered prayer. We know God loves us and has a good plan for our lives. Why then does God take so long to answer our deepest, most heartfelt prayers? From Abraham’s experience we may suggest three answers:

1. To develop perseverance in us.

To put it very simply, it would be too easy if God answered all our prayers the first time we prayed them. Not only would we take God for granted, we would also develop a shallow faith.

I have a good friend who is stuck in a difficult job situation. She works with a colleague who has a reputation for being an easygoing nice guy. “But he’s not like that behind the scenes,” she says. Every time she has a good idea, he either steals it or complains to the boss. And since his job is more important than hers, he always wins. He also uses threats and intimidation to get his way. He thinks only of himself and how he can get ahead, and he doesn’t mind being ruthless if that’s what it takes to get what he wants.

Sound familiar? Every office probably has a person who answers to that description. When I asked my friend if she was planning on leaving her job, she gave a very wise answer: “I know that God put me here and gave me the talent to do my job. If he wants to move me, that’s fine, but I’m not going to try to do it myself. I’m sure God can use me in this position and I want to learn everything he is trying to teach me.”

Here is a woman whose faith is growing stronger through a difficult situation. Every day she is being given new opportunities to trust God and to respond graciously to an unkind coworker. Meanwhile, she prays for God to work in her and through her and, if necessary, to change her situation. My own feeling is that God will eventually answer her prayers by either moving her on to a new job or by removing the other person. But that may not happen for months or years, and until then, my friend is developing many godly qualities as she patiently waits on the Lord.

2. To ensure that God alone gets the glory.

When Paul wrote about Abraham’s story, he mentioned this point prominently. Romans 4:19-21 says,

“Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead-since he was about a hundred years old-and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

Not only did Abraham have to wait twenty-five years for an answer to his prayers, but he also had to suffer the humiliation of his own failed schemes. Immediately after God spoke to him in Genesis 15, he agreed with Sarah to sleep with their maidservant Hagar in hope of conceiving a child through her. It worked, and Ishmael was born. But this shortsighted attempt to “help God out” backfired and brought sadness and heartache to everyone involved.

God often delays His answers.

God often delays his answers so that we will have plenty of opportunities to fail using our own resources. Only then does God act, but when he does, it demonstrates that he alone is responsible for answering our prayers and that he alone must get the glory.

3. To deepen our trust in God.

I think that’s why Hebrews 11 gives more space to Abraham’s story than to any other Old Testament hero. He is the preeminent man of faith in the Bible. When we read his story and see how long he waited (twenty-five years), we gain a new perspective on our own situation.

If Abraham had to wait, it should not surprise us that we will often have to wait a long time for the fulfillment of our dreams and the answers to our prayers. And as with Abraham, waiting is not bad if it causes us to deepen our trust in God and to learn more about his character.

The Answer to Fear is God

God’s answer to fear is not an argument or a formula. It’s a Person. That’s why he said to Abraham, “Fear not. I am your shield.” God himself is the final answer to every fear of the human heart.

Have you ever wondered why God called himself by the name “I AM” in the Old Testament? Above all else, it means that God is eternally existent and therefore all creation depends on him. God stands alone. No one can be compared to him. He is complete in himself. God doesn’t need us but we desperately need him.

God doesn't need us, but we desperately need Him.

Think of it this way. To say that God is the great “I AM” means that when we come to him, he is everything we need at exactly that moment. It’s as if God is saying . . .

I am your strength.
I am your courage.
I am your health.
I am your hope.
I am your supply.
I am your defender.
I am your deliverer.
I am your forgiveness.
I am your joy.
I am your future.

God is saying to you and me, “I am whatever you need whenever you need it." He is the all-sufficient God for every crisis.

Fear Not and Have Faith

Let’s wrap up this message by looking at four principles that will move us from fear to faith.

1. Faith focuses on God, not on your problems.

A woman told me that she had changed her phone number and left it unlisted because she is gripped with fear as she thinks about certain people and what they might do to her. As we talked together, I finally said, “It’s time to move from fear to faith. Are you ready to move with me?” She smiled hesitantly and then said yes. We prayed, claiming God’s promises of protection. When I saw her the next day she said that she had slept much better that night because she wasn’t focusing on her fears.

Think of Abraham. The past argued against his ever having a child. So did the present. His only hope lay in the promises of God for the future. As long as he looked back, he would never have faith to believe in God. His only hope was to step out into the future, trusting that somehow, someway God would keep his promises.

2. Faith trusts in God’s timing, not your own.

So many of our struggles with fear start right here. Deep down, we fear that God has somehow made a mistake in his dealings with us. Like Abraham, we have waited and waited-sometimes for years on end. Even though we may have seen many remarkable answers to prayer, the one thing that means the most to us has not been granted.

As I write these words I am thinking of certain people I know who pray faithfully week after week for their loved ones to be saved. Some of them write notes each week asking prayer for an unsaved husband or wife. Week in and week out the requests come in and the staff prays for them faithfully. One husband has been praying for his wife for many years with no real change in sight. Another wife faithfully requests prayer for her husband. Sometimes he seems interested in spiritual things, and then his interest suddenly seems to disappear.

Where is God? Why doesn’t he answer the fervent, heartfelt prayers of his people?

Of the many answers that might be given to that question, one answer must be that God’s timing and ours are often quite different. Sometimes it seems like we live in one time zone and God lives in another.

3. Faith grows by believing in God in spite of your circumstances.

Sometimes our circumstances make it easy to believe in God; other times we have to struggle. As I write these words I have a friend who is entering the final stages of his battle with cancer. After long and difficult treatments, there is nothing else the doctors can do. He is one of the finest men I know; a man whose gentle spirit endears him to others. No one knows how much time he has left, but it seems to be a matter of a few days. The last time I talked with him, he spoke about the goodness of God. He added that he and his wife had had a long and happy life together and they knew that God would take care of them. His wife said simply, “No matter what happens we are trusting in the Lord.” That’s biblical faith rising above circumstances to lay hold of the eternal promises of God.

4. Faith obeys God one step at a time.

This principle is often overlooked by those seeking to do God’s will. God promised a child and Abraham desperately wanted to see the fulfillment of that promise. So what does God tell him to do? Round up the animals for a sacrifice (see Genesis 15:9-11). How do you get from there to the nursery? Abraham doesn’t have a clue and God doesn’t tell him a thing. But Abraham now has a choice. He can choose to obey God, round up the animals, and get ready for a sacrifice, even though it doesn’t seem to connect with the son of his dreams. Or he can argue with God or decide to take matters in his own hands.

God weaves an unseen pattern that one day will lead us in a new direction.

How often we stumble over this. We slight the near in favor of the far, shirking the duties of today because we are dreaming about some distant tomorrow. But until we have done what God has called us to do today, we will never be prepared for what he wants us to do tomorrow.

In the end, 99 percent of life turns out to be a humdrum, ordinary routine. It’s the same old thing day after day. Yet out of the humdrum God is weaving an unseen pattern that will one day lead us in a new direction. Faith takes the next step- whatever it is-and walking with God wherever he leads us. Sometimes it will make sense, other times it won’t. But we still have to take that step if we are going to do God’s will.

Can God be trusted?

Everything I’ve been trying to say comes down to one simple question: Can God be trusted to do what is right? If the answer is yes, then we can face the worst that life has to offer. If the answer is no, then we’re no better off than the people who have no faith at all. In fact, if the answer is no or if we’re not sure, then we really don’t have any faith anyway.

I have chosen to believe because I must believe.

When my father died 38 years ago, I came face to face with the ultimate unanswerable question of life. I didn’t know then why such a good man would have to die at the age of fifty-six or why he would leave my mother and her four sons without a husband and a father. I had no clue about what God was doing. In the years since then, I have learned many things about life, but I confess that I still don’t understand why my father died. It doesn’t make any more sense to me now than it did then. I am older and wiser, but in the one question that really matters I have no answers. But I have learned since then that faith is a choice you make. Sometimes you choose to believe because of what you see; often you believe in spite of what you can see.

As I look to the world around me, many things remain mysterious and unanswerable. But if there is no God, and if he is not good, then nothing at all makes sense. I have chosen to believe because I must believe. I truly have no other choice.

"But I can trust"

Pioneer missionary J. Hudson Taylor founded the China Inland Mission in 1865. During the terrible days of the Boxer Rebellion (1898-1901), when missionaries were being captured and killed, he went through such agony of soul that he could not pray. Writing in his journal, he summarized his spiritual condition this way: “I can’t read. I can’t think. I can’t pray. But I can trust.”

There will be times when we can’t read the Bible. Sometimes we won’t be able to focus our thoughts on God at all. Often we will not even be able to pray. But in those moments when we can’t do anything else, we can still trust in the loving purposes of our heavenly Father.

Fear not, child of God. No one knows what a day may bring. Who knows if we will all make it through this week? But our God is faithful to keep every one of his promises. Nothing can happen to us except it first passes through the hands of God. If your way is dark, keep on believing. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he cares for you. Hallelujah!!

Your Partner.
