SHABACH, THE HOLY ROAR

Shâbach, shaw-bath ́: To address in a loud tone. To shout. To commend, glory, and triumph.1

One generation shall praise (shâbach) Your works to another And shall declare Your mighty acts. — Psalm 145:4 NKJV.

Shâbach, our final Hebrew word of praise, means to address in a loud tone, to shout, to commend, to glory, or to declare triumph.

Quite literally, it means to raise a holy roar. The word is used sparsely in the Old Testament, a mere eleven times, but each time, it has a powerful effect.

In Psalm 63, David penned a song of praise while he was in the wilderness of Judah. He wrote:

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water… Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. I will praise (shâbach) You as long as I live, and in Your name, I will lift my hands. — Psalm 63:1, Psalm 63:3-4

Even in the dry places, the desert places, David resolved to live out his days by lifting a shout of praise to God.

This shout of praise, this shâbach, is not simply a personal declaration though. The shortest psalm, Psalm 117, calls all nations to raise a holy roar. In the simplest shâbach fo wasund in all of Scripture, the psalmist wrote:

Praise the Lord, all you nations. Praise (shâbach) Him, all you people of the earth. — Psalm 117:1 NLT

Corporate celebration, shout, give us the clearest image of shâbach. Every time we gather with God’s people to praise Him, one voice unites with another. Songs become anthems. Anthems become declarations. Declarations become a holy roar.

The notion of shâbach transcends geography; it’s a holy roar that reaches from one generation to the next. In Psalm 145:4 (NKJV), the psalmist wrote:

One generation shall praise (shâbach) Your works to another and shall declare Your mighty acts.

The holy roar of praise is not self-contained, not just for a particular people in a particular space. It does not praise to pump up the present crowd. It’s to pass on the faith from one generation to the next. The next generation, the future church, is waiting for the sound of shâbach.

The shout of praise needs your voice. Join the holy roar today.

A Prayer on the Occasion of an Ordination By Dr. I. D. Samuel

Gracious and loving Lord,

in perfect assurance of Your presence here

we pray your fulfillment of these blessings upon this minister

who has been called from among these people to assume the office of

pastor, preacher, prophet and servant.

God, we pray that you will utterly possess N. in all of his/her duties, that he/she may daily incarnate your love and mercy with those he/she is called to serve,

never flagging in commitment, never despairing of the ultimate coming of your kingdom, and never doubting the sincere desire of his/her people to be brought closer to God through all the ways of justice and compassion.

Let this your servant N. begin and end every day with you, dear God, renewing his/her faith and repairing it where it is weak;

praying into the mysteries of life and death which s/he will be called upon to celebrate, and to endure, with his/her people;

fearlessly examining his/her conscience for sins of commission or omission and resolving cheerfully to make reparation where it is needed;

searching his/her soul for sources of integrity and steadfast faith;

turning over his/her weariness to Your care;

relinquishing his/her failures toYour mercy,

and refreshing the vows that s/he makes here today.

We devoutly hope that strength of body, mind and spirit shall remain his/her primary fortunes all his/her life long, and that s/he will be constantly refreshed in those powers by the judicious expenditure of them.

Bring our N. joy in ministry, Divine One, and we will give you praise for all that you do through this imperfect but obedient and devoted vessel.

Bring him/her joy, and let him/her be your instrument in every act and every prayer,

for however long and in whatever places it may please and serve You.

All this we pray with devout thanksgiving for your many blessings. Amen.

Where did Elijah got water he doused the sacrifice from

Question

There was a severe drought (1 Kings 17:718:2). But before Elijah prayed for fire to come down from heaven he doused the sacrifice with water three times until it filled the trenches around the altar.

Where did the water come from?

Answer

1 Kings 17:7 Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

1 Kings 18:2 So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria.

1 Kings 18:32-35 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seahs of seed. He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, "Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood. Do it again," he said, and they did it again. "Do it a third time," he ordered, and they did it the third time. The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.

Man and beast were still living, so water was still in supply. The servants did not complain there was not enough (1 Kings 18:32-35). There were springs and brooks around the land. 1 Kings 18:5 states, "Ahab had said to Obadiah, "'Go through the land to all the springs and valleys. Maybe we can find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive so we will not have to kill any of our animals.'" Apparently, the mission was successful.

Amazingly, after the prophets of Baal were destroyed at the Kishon Valley (1 Kings 18:40), the drought ended (1 Kings 18:41) and:

1 Kings 18:43-45 Go and look toward the sea, he told his servant. And he went up and looked. There is nothing there, he said. Seven times Elijah said, Go back. The seventh time the servant reported, A cloud as small as a mans hand is rising from the sea. So Elijah said, Go and tell Ahab, Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you. Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel.

Don't miss the irony. Baal, the Canaanite god of water and storm, had a drought, his prophets were slaughtered at a brook, and then there was water - much water.

Yahweh is the God of water. He is the God of Creation. He is also the God of the new creation of the soul - born again (John 3:1-8). He is the Living Water (Jer. 2:1317:13John 4:107:38Rev. 7:17). "The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God" (1 Kings 18:39).

All Round Rest. A sermon Presented By Dr. I. D. Samuel on our COVENANT DAY OF REST 2022

You Too Can Find Rest From The Word Of God

Despite the fact that unrest is prevalent in the world, there are still some people that enjoy rest in their homes, marriages, careers, jobs and lives. I want to let you know that true rest is possible, and it is only God that can give it. There are people enjoying rest unlimited. You too can find rest from the Word of God. The Word of God says: Despite the fact that unrest is prevalent in the world, there are still some people that enjoy rest in their homes, marriages, careers, jobs and lives.

You too can find rest from the Word of God. The Word of God says: For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief (Romans 4:8-11). There is something you must do to enter your rest.

Quite a large number of people today are experiencing one form of unrest or another. Some are so anxious about the future and are wondering over what it holds for them, while others are running helter-skelter, seeking for money-making enterprises and getting none. Some others are still searching out an escape route from tension in their failing family lives.

For many in the world, these are pressure-filled times and statistics have indicated that the decline of marriage and the family unit has been greater and more alarming in the past 25 years than any other quarter century in history! There is no doubt about it that there is unrest around us today and even the world over, which has affected families economically, socially and politically. It is a global issue and so its solution cannot come from running to another nation or location.

Constant crisis, terrible difficulties, turbulence and pandemonium have become the order of the day. Nevertheless, this was not God’s plan when He created the world, marriage and family life. His plan was that your marriage and family life bring you tremendous joy. The question on the minds of many now seems to be: Is it possible to find rest in this time of unrest?

Today, the Word of God is going to proffer a suitable answer to that question.

Who are those that have rest even in times of unrest? There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God: (Hebrews 4:9).

Also, 2 Thessalonians 1:7 says: And to you who are troubled REST with us.The key word is, the people of God. The Holy Scriptures reveals the way to obtain genuine rest from God. Are you part of God’s people? His Word tells us that, As many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12).

One of the Saturday Punch Readers wrote me and said, “Your writings in the Saturday Punch are spiritual food. I started reading your articles since September 1997, and there has been a lot of positive changes in my life. I pray that God will give you more and more grace to continue to feed us. Adewole Samuel, Ondo state.”

For the people of God, since rest is your birthright, and the will of God for you, whatever thing does not make you enjoy the peace and rest of God is a yoke. Whatever keeps your life in anxiety is a yoke and must be removed.

Therefore, find out what the Word of God says about that particular area of your life where you desire rest and hold fast to it and it will become a reality in your life. God’s Word says: For we which have believed do enter into rest (Hebrews 4:3).

Take for example, my marital life. Before I got married, I saw from God’s Word that rest was my portion as His child in every facet of my life including my home. I prepared for rest not trouble. I saw it in the Word of God and I appropriated it. And today God has fulfilled my expectation. My home is a resting-place for all.

Rest is available to you through the Word of God, which is its source. Absolute rest is found only in Christ Jesus. Any alternative that the world may attempt to offer you will only be temporary. It may work for a short while, but ultimately it will fail woefully. Why not take a permanent solution then? The permanent solution lies solely on the Word of God, which will guarantee you and your family all-round rest. God is on your side!

If you are not a part of God’s people and you want to be, now is the best time. Do not postpone or procrastinate rather, if you are not yet born again and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through our contacts. godscityprimate@gmail.com
