THE DICHOTOMY OF LEADERSHIP AND FOLLOWERSHIP BY Dr Bright Otso

Any leader without follower is just taking a walk and follower without a leader is disaster waiting to happen. Never follow any leader that doesn't follows.

The dichotomy of followership and leadership explores the interdependent relationship between leaders and followers, highlighting how both roles contribute to organizational success. Note that every leader is a follower from behind and every follower is a leader from the behind also, therefore collaboration between leaders and followers is Key for organizational or team success. Key points include:

1, Interdependence: Leaders cannot lead without followers, and followers often influence leaders through feedback, support, and participation. This creates a dynamic relationship rather than a one-sided hierarchy.

2, Role Fluidity: Leadership and followership roles are not static. In many situations, individuals switch between being leaders and followers based on context, expertise, or circumstances.

3, Mutual Responsibility: Both leaders and followers are responsible for achieving goals. While leaders provide direction, vision, and motivation, followers are essential in executing strategies and providing constructive input.

4, Shared Values: Effective leadership and followership require alignment in values, trust, and communication. Leaders inspire followers by embodying values, while followers contribute through loyalty and active engagement.

5, Empowerment: Good leaders empower their followers, fostering an environment where followers feel valued and encouraged to take initiative. Similarly, strong followers support leaders by providing honest feedback and innovation.

This dichotomy shows that effective leadership is not about dominance but about fostering collaborative relationships where both leaders and followers influence each other.
