 *COMMENTARY*

How often do we as a family share our story of where God picked us from and how he has brought us to our present place? As a father or mother, you may need to tell the children when, where, and how you met the Lord Jesus Christ. You may share stories of how you met and got married. Tell stories of God's help to you over the years. These stories, told, again and again, play an important part in forming a Godly family identity and binding us to one another in serving God.

The entirety of Psalm 105 recounts and celebrates God's history

with Israel. Today's reading shares stories of God's faithfulness. The Psalmist calls us to make known God's deeds among the people, to remember the marvellous works that He has done; His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth. He highlights the promise God made to Abraham to give his descendants the land of

Canaan. How they moved between various nations. Yet God didn't

allow anybody to oppress them. He cautioned rulers for their sake. God's faithfulness is a primary factor in Israel's history. When there was a famine, God sent Joseph ahead of his family to Egypt to accommodate them (Gen. 45:1-5). When Israel was enslaved, God liberated them. God led and directed them into the wilderness and brought them into the Promised Land.

Our text reminds us of one thing: God keeps His promises! God never fails. Despite how desperate things may look, we should never give up hope in His promises. He will be faithful just as He has been in the past.

Today as we meditate on the promises God has fulfilled, be reminded that His Word is a demonstration of His honour and dependability. What promises of God have been fulfilled to you as an individual or a family? Take time today to share family or personal stories of God'ss faithfulness among family members.

If there is one area in which every serious Christian always feels the need to improve, it is his prayer life.

Most Christians like to pray, but many don't know how to pray effectively. Effective prayer is a prayer that births result: Prayers that birth results were not prayed for selfish reasons, as many believers do, they pray for selfish reasons and pray amiss.

An effective prayer is a prayer prayed with a humble heart because the Lord resist the prayers of a proud man. After all, such a heart cannot be aligned with God.

An effective prayer is a prayer that is prayed with believing heart in the Lord, a focused heart, a heart sincerely

aligned to the will of the father.

An effective prayer life indicates that the Holy Spirit is leading us. We are praying for the things God want us to pray for and this is a reflection of our relationship and commitment to God.

📖 *TODAY'S READING:*

Genesis 25:25-30

📜 *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Numbers 1-2

 *COMMENTARY*

The lives and well-being of children are determined by the way their parents bring them up. The truth is that God does not expect parents to favour one child more than the others. Parents who show favouritism to one child are creating dangers for the whole child. It drives an unfair atmosphere into the life of the child and hatred from the rest of the children. God frowns at the attitude of parents who indulge themselves in this ugly situation. However, parents are expected to remain neutral and treat all their children equally in words and deeds.

Esau was the older brother of Jacob. According to Jewish law,

the right of the firstborn was conferred on Esau. So, Isaac loved Esau more than Jacob because Esau was a hunter and always prepared a delicious meal for him. Similarly, Rebekah loved Jacob more than Esau because Jacob always stayed at home to take care of the

sheep.

However, Rebekah conspired with Jacob to steal Esau's birthright and blessing. In this game, there was already a division and conflict in the family. The parents created this tension because of favouritism. In what way do you love one of your children more than others? What Isaac and Rebekah displayed, set their family

in heartache and bitterness. Esau and Jacob became like cats and rats. Although everything worked according to God's plan, parents are expected to love their children with equal measure.

The unfavoured child is likely defeated and unmotivated. In essence, the child suffers from depression and anger all the time. It further poisons the child's mind against his parents and this will not augur well for the family. Allow God to build your family with a sound mind and destiny fulfilment.

"Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge, Heb. 13:44.

📖 *TODAY'S READING:*

Genesis 2:21-25

📜 *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Leviticus 26-27

 *COMMENTARY*

The sanctity of marriage is fast eluding our world. In our society, today, adultery, fornication, and sexual perversion are seen as normal in some quarters. Many years back, adultery was seen as taboo. Today, some call it having fun. Another evil that has bedeviled our society is divorce. Some couples don't care about how God feels and what happens to their children after divorce. Marriage is an institution of learning, where morals, godliness, and sexual purity are taught and exemplified.

Marriage is, "for better for worst". While officiating a wedding some years ago, I asked the would-be couple, to repeat after me, "for better for worst", the man said, for better for us". I insisted that he must repeat exactly what I said. He found it difficult to repeat after me; I insisted anyway. It is appalling, that today, divorce, adultery, and sexual perversion have become fanciful amongst Christian couples. These ill winds, that bequeath society no good, must be checked, especially in the church before they get out of hand.

Christian marriage is instituted for five reasons:

*(1) Completeness,* Adam was not complete until Eve came. A man is not complete without a woman in his life, and vice versa.

*(2) Companionship,* marriage is for companionship. Couples should be best of friends.

*(3) Procreation,* God instituted marriage also for procreation. He said, let everything have its kind.

*(4) Representation of the union between Christ and His Church,*

Christian marriage should take after the relationship between Christ and His church, and

*(5) Preserve sexual sanctity,* sexual perversion should.never be mentioned among Christian couples.

May the Lord remove the ill wind of divorce that is wreaking havoc in many homes, heal the church and restore sanctity, peace, love, andunity in many hurting homes, in Jesus' name.

📖 *TODAY'S READING:*

Matthew 5:31-32,

Malachi 2:16.

📜 *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Leviticus 24-25

 *COMMENTARY*

It's no secret that families are in trouble today. The divorce rate

continues to rise, with devastating consequences. God has a plan for the family and divorce isn't part of it. Nether is physical abuse or any other abuse part of God's plan for the family. If we are to have strong people, a strong church, and a strong nation, we must first have strong families.

The hurts and heartaches of divorce  have shaken the foundation of the family in every part of the world. Marriage is supposed to be a permanent relationship, not a temporary assignment that we can quit if we don't like. However, there may be room for; separation as a cure for avoidable fatalities in marriage.

In the context of Matthew 5:31-32, God permitted divorce for only one reason: adultery. Divorce is never God's intent (Matt. 19:8); but He allowed it in the case of sexual immorality in talking about the subject in, Matthew chapter nineteen, Jesus doesn't command divorce. Instead, He teaches that restoration and forgiveness are, better alternatives. Why does God hate divorce? One obvious answer might be the damage it does to the people divorcing.

Economically divorce devastates most couples and this plays a part in emotional damage. A second possible answer to why God hates divorce is the damage it does to children. Children of divorce are more likely to have behavioral problems.

There happens to be an alternative to divorce, and that is to get right with God. Ever since the Garden of Eden, man has been tempted to follow his path. "We have turned everyone to his way" (Isaiah 53:6) Yet the God who knows everything has told us what will work and what won't. If you want your family to be successful and blessed for generations to come, the first step is for you to be a Christian who fears and obeys God. This produces benefits that reach far into the future.

🔑 *KEY VERSE:*

"Because you know that the testing of your faith produce perseverance" (James 1:3).

*TODAY'S TEXT*

Hebrew 11:1-11; 1 Peter 1:7–9

*MESSAGE*

Our faith must be anchored in the timeless nature of Christ. We may however want to ask; How do you know that one's faith in Christ will hold up during the storms of life? Why should we trust Christ?

From our main texts today we can see example of some saints

who placed their faith in God and prevailed over every challenge that confronted them. Herewith, we should understand that every

tough trail that confronts us as those who love Christ shall all end

in praise.

Peter described how a goldsmith would melt metals until it becomes a liquid. All the impurities would come to the surface and the goldsmith would scrape them off and allow the metal to cool. A process he repeated over and over until gold is free of impurities.

Peter compared our faith with gold, as it is tested, impurities will surface. When these impurities are removed our faith

becomes more valuable. Gold is the standard by which we define value. We say things like, "worth its weight in gold", "the golden boy", and "the golden age". In Peter's world and in ours, gold was/is considered one of the most valuable things a person could have but while gold is valuable, it is secondary to our faith. Gold can perish but our faith will endure.

The goldsmith knew that he has pure gold when he can see his reflection in the metal. May our faith reflect Jesus and reveal Him to the world.

➖➖➖➖➖➖

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

Faith in the death, burial and resurrection of God's only Son is far more valuable than gold.

📖 *TODAY'S READING:*

Joshua 24:14-27

📜 *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Leviticus 22-23

 *COMMENTARY*

The home is the Single most influential force in our earthly existence. As in the days of Joshua, so it is with us today. As parents, one of the choices we must make is whether or not we are going to prepare our children to serve the Lord. Joshua certainly understood the power of parents. As he came to the end of his life, he called the leaders of Israel together for one final message. Knowing that he is only one step from death, he sounds like a call to renewal that begins with a recital of God's blessings in the past (Joshua 24:1-13). Then he challenges the people to be faithful to God. In the middle of his message, we find those stirring words that have been quoted and memorized for over 3000 years: "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord" (v.15).

As parents, we have the responsibility to prepare our children to serve the Lord, and we will be held accountable for them. First, each of us must personally decide to serve the Lord. I can't choose for you or you for me. We need a generation of Joshuas who will make this choice for themselves. Second, parents have a special obligation to set the right example in this area. We can hardly expect our children to serve Christ when we take our obligations lightly. Third, fathers have the highest obligation. Joshua speaks as the God-appointed leader of his family. He claims the right to speak for his wife, his children, and even his servants. Every Christian man ought to make a similar statement about the family God has given him.

However, we cannot guarantee what our children will do but we can provide an atmosphere of godliness that makes it easier to choose Christ than to choose the way of the world. Just as the people of Israel, let's rededicate our lives to the Lord. It is a reminder to check our hearts, the activities that go on in our home, the example parents set

for their family, behaviors, and actions to ensure all of what we say, think, and do, align with pleasing God.

 *COMMENTARY*

Nobody can make himself better than what God intends for him but when your ambition fails and you concoct evil ways to achieve it, you may hurt yourself, there are more righteous means through which you can achieve same, though you will have to wait on God with patience. God had already chosen Jacob from the womb ahead of his sibling twin. Instead of going by God's time-table, Jacob and his mother conspired to have the birth-right with deceit.

By so doing, antagonized themselves with Esau, bringing about a long drawn family feud. Jacob left home in fear and stayed with his uncle, Laban. In spite of his selfish disposition, he still had God on his side. It was actually a hybrid of sadness and joy as he served fourteen years for Rachael and his wages negatively changed severally. He was paid in his own coin. As God watched him, He saw a changed man in him and directed him to go back to the Promised Land.

On his way, he was told that his brother was coming with 400 men to meet him. He became sore afraid as he recalled his wrong doing towards him. He opted for peaceful reconciliation with irresistible gifts and prayers. He was still unsettled because of his wives and children. Sins and wrong doing deny us confidence, peace and boldness not only before men but before God. The golden verse states that the righteous man is as bold as a lion.

Colossians 2:1-15

*MESSAGE*

Christ wants us to have victory over the enemy waging battles (physical and spiritual). If we engage this battle with worldly principles the devil will defeat us.

To defeat the devil, we must remind him that he is defeated, Jesus won the battle. So truth and knowledge of His word gives us the victory.

Do not let down your guard. You are devil proof by the blood of

Jesus, so hold on to your weapons and never lay them down. The devil wants you to stay confused and not battle ready. So watch out for those subtle moves the devil would bring up, recognize your enemy and his plans and never take your eyes off Jesus.

Complete obedience to God is one of the keys to a life of dominion. Saul loses dominion because of his disobedience, and he was described as a rebellious person. 1 Sam 15: 11-23. Jesus said

the proof of our love for Him is our obedience to His commands. If we

are going to have and maintain the dominion Christ has giving us, we

must walk in absolute obedience to His words and commands at all times.

We are described as more than conquerors due to the victory and dominion Christ has given us over every situation and circumstances in this world. Rom 8:35-39. No one can walk in dominion unless he is

first connected to Christ. You can start the journey into the life of dominion today by accepting the free gift of salvation. Repent of your sins, ask for pardon from God through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, and surrender to Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour.

1. I was disappointed by those I trusted (Disappointment)

Man looks at physical appearances but God looks at the heart.

The members of the church today are actors, professors and more often than not Christians. God has little regard for hypocrites. Most of the sermons of Jesus in the New Testament were a crush on the disposition. The undue veneration of material acquisition over character and virtue is our greatest undoing nowadays. Patriarchal, Mosaic and Christian generations honor character and virtue as attributes that manifest divinity. Paul states in Hebrew that God is a rewarder of diligent worshippers. On our text, Joseph was exposed to vigorous trials and temptations, he was not found wanting. As a result, God rewarded his diligence by creating an office that had never existed and caused him to occupy it.

Tunde Ojo, a secondary school student in Nigeria picked a lost mobile phone that belonged to an expatriate. He returned the phone without obligation and was appreciated financially by the owner he refused financial compensation. The foreigner could not believe a Nigerian student was capable of such feat. L.IF.E. Initiative, an NGO awarded Tunde a scholarship for a 4-year term, in a Nigerian University. For this uncommon life of integrity. The Nations Newspaper, 25 June, 2015, p. 39]. Tunde has pure heart and experienced the miracle of wholesome-character.

We are all capable of such feat.

God, every day is testing the elects. Nobody chooses his test or trial.

God allows the experience to come our ways in order to bring out the real us. It can come from any angle. The scripture describes God as a rewarder. It states that only diligent-seekers does God reward. What is the meaning of diligence? Passionate, earnestness, efficient, effectual, effective, perseverance, carefulness and calmness. When we manifest God's glory and goodness in our universe, that is life style evangelism. God rewards us in this life and the life to come.

A member once asked me, pastor, have I not prayed enough? Why hasn't God answered me? The challenge of prayer is not whether we have prayed enough, but whether we pray aright. In our text, Jesus showed us how to approach God in prayers. He said we should pray:

¶ *Reverently and Devotionally*, "our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name". Some people command God in the name of prayer by taking Isaiah 45:11, out of context,

Thus saith the LORD, command ye me". We don't command God in prayers, instead, we are with Him.

¶ *According to His will,* "thy kingdom come", "thy will be done". The Bible says, "if we ask anything according to His will, he heareth us", 1 John 5:14. The WILL of God is for

sinners to be saved. His WILL is that believers in Christ might have eternal life. His WILL is to supply our needs. "Give us this day our daily bread". He may not grant all our wants, but our needs are sure to be met.

¶ *Penitently,* "forgive us our sins...". We should appear before God as sinners saved by grace and not as people who

merited anything good.

¶ *For Divine Direction and Protection.* Any prayer made for divine protection and direction is a sure banker. Our steps need to be ordered aright to avoid avoidable temptations. With evil and evil people everywhere, if God does not protect us daily, we are doomed.

May you pray right and get the right results. May you not waste hours and days in prayers praying in the wrong ways and for the wrong things. May the Lord grant your deepest heart's desires

Leviticus 5-7

 *COMMENTARY*

Why celebrate Valentine's day? To answer this question and many more, which fill the air around this period each year by curious Christians, a little background story of the man with whom we associate Lovers' Day is necessary. Valentine was a Catholic priest who lived in the Third century, at the time Rome was ruled by Emperor Claudius II. Claudius waged many wars which claimed the lives of many young people. Hence, many of them detested joining his army. To get the young people back ininto the army, he issued a decree to stop them from getting married, but Valentine defied the King's edict and was secretly wedding many young couples. This led to his execution on 14th

February, 270 AD.

Before his execution, Valentine wrote a love letter to the daughter of his jailor whom he cured of blindness. His letter closed with a note, "From your Valentine". Valentine's official feast day was first held on 14 February, 496 AD, to replace pagan worship which the Christian Church was trying to stamp out. At first, the celebration was not associated with Romantic Love until, Poet Geoffrey Chaucer, associated it with romantic love as we have it today.

Like the Christmas Day celebration, Valentine's day celebration has lost its original intended purpose. It was to be a day to celebrate a man who stood for what he believed till death. Unfortunately, Valentine's Day has become a doomsday for many people. My take is that the church should take advantage of Valentine's Day since it has become the world's most celebrated day only second to the Christmas celebration. It should not be left in the hands of godless people, who misuse and abuse the day. The church should turn that 'Day' into a rendezvous, that would channel the energies of youths positively.

Leviticus 1-4

 *COMMENTARY*

The "one another" in our text is a reference to fellow believers. A distinguishing mark of being a follower of Christ is a deep, sincere love for brothers and sisters in Christ. The apostle John reminds us of this fact elsewhere: "He has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister(1 John 4:21).

Jesus created a group identified by one thing: love. There are many groups in the world, and they identify themselves in different ways But the church is unique. For the first and only time in history, Jesus created a group whose identifying factor is love. Skin colour does not matter. Native language does not matter. Followers of Christ are identified by their love for each other. The early church demonstrated the type of love Jesus was talking about. There were people in Jerusalem from all over the known world (Acts2:9-11). Those who were saved got together and immediately began meeting each other's needs: "All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had a need

(Acts 2:44-45). This was love in action, and you can be sure it made an impression on the people of that city.

How does Jesus love? He loves unconditionally (Romans 5:8), sacrificially (2 Corinthians 5:12), and with forgiveness (Ephesians

4,32), and eternally. (Romans 8:38-39). At the same time, Jesus' love is holy, characterized by holiness (Hebrews 7:26)

*Research has shown that giving and getting love are connected to happiness.*

 *COMMENTARY*

Dr H.A. Ironside used to talk about a group of believers who thought only of "fellowship". They had little concern for reaching the lost or for defending the faith against its enemies.

In front of their meeting place, they hung a sign: JESUS ONLY. But the wind blew away some of the letters, and the sign read——US ONLY. It was a perfect description of a group of people who were not balanced Christians. Life places many demands on us. We are busy with family,

work, school, church activities, or other responsibilities. At this we find ourselves feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed, frustrated, and tired. One of the greatest needs of our lives is balance, and this can only be achieved as we keep Christ at the centre of all other activities.

The following practices will help bring balance to your life:

*Be reasonable.* Don't be distracted and torn in pieces, as it were, with

anxious and unnecessary thoughts. Just do your best.

*Learn to say no.* Often people say yes to others because there might be

unreasonable pressure to please people. Consider your current list of responsibilities. Today's trouble is enough for today. Take time to think about what you can reasonably handle and alleviate adding extra stress by learning how to say no.

*Focus on today* "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its worries". There will always be something that we will need to do another day. Try to avoid obsessing about the future, and focus on what is happening today.

*Find a place where you can daily spend time alone with God who knows that you have needs.* Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. God desires to share personal fellowship with you, but you must take the time to enjoy it

*Focus on God's priorities.* Seek first of all His kingdom and all these things taken together will be given to you. When you make Christ the centre of your life, the cares of this world become less weighty, and you will discover His joy and peace.

*Make a schedule for rest.* Resting doesn't always have to equate to

sleeping, but scheduling time to relax can be beneficial to your health.

➖➖➖➖➖➖

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

Make Christ the centre of your life to experience balance.

🙏🏿 *PRAYER*

Lord, help me to understand that there is more to life than the daily stressors that create imbalance and unhappiness.

*COMMENTARY*

It is very good to belong to a local Church and a Christian fellowship. Is good we grow together in such fellowship, there one can contribute to some biblical discussions and ask questions. For iron sharpens iron according to proverbs 27:17.

The complaints of the Pharisees and teachers of the law this time were about a woman caught in adultery and immediately subjected to a punishment which is under the law of Moses. Jesus' answer was disappointing to them

though H said the sinless among them all should throw the woman a stone first, Jesus does not support sin but He has come primarily that all might be saved through him.

Jesus did not allow a holiholier-than-solitude of the Pharisees and teachers of the law of Moses. The woman

found mercy in Christ. It does not matter where you are coming from, where you were caught, or what you were

caught doing, but what matters is your forgiveness in Christ Jesus. He will forgive you if you approach him in repentance and soberness. Turn away from your sins, never indulge in sin again, and work towards perfection. Jesus told the woman not to go back to her sin. Do not go back to your vomit, which are your former sins in which you were indulged before you met Jesus.

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

Jesus did not come to judge the world, but that the world can be saved through him.

*SHABACH YESHUA ENDLESS GOODNESS DAILY DEVOTIONAL* Friday 10th February, 2023 ____ *TOPIC:* *LIVING AS A NEW CREATURE*

🔑 *KEY VERSE:*

"Therefore, if a man is in CHRIST JESUS, he is a new creature, old things

are passed away: Behold all things become new" 2 Corinthians 5:17.

📖 *TODAY'S READING:*

1 Samuel 10:1-9

📜 *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Exodus 33-35

 *COMMENTARY*

When someone becomes a child of God, he is a new creature, and old things have passed away in his life and all things have become new. God called every one of His children for a specific purpose. It is our responsibility to discover our reason for being.

As a Christian, you have been anointed and chosen for a specific reason or purpose in CHRIST. You have been chosen by GOD to be fruitful for Him. Are you bearing fruit for your Maker; as a new person in CHRIST, have you forsaken your old ways genuinely to follow CHRIST and bear fruit for Him?

For example, in king Saul of Israel, when the Spirit of God came upon him, he became a new man (1 Samuel 10:9), and he received a new heart entirely different from the one in him. He received the heart of GOD as a different man. He was changed to the extent that he passed through the companies of Prophets and he also began to prophesy like them.

Are you a new CREATURE? Are you doing what the LORD wants you to do as a new person in Him? All these are questions to ask yourself and be sure of what you are saying that you are a new person in CHRIST. There was an order for Saul to wait on Samuel and not to be in a hurry, as an anointed one never is in a hurry at all, always be ready and ever willing to receive GOD'S Leading every time.

➖➖➖➖➖➖

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

As a newly born-again Christian, you carry a new heart.

🙏🏿 *PRAYER*

Give me a new and upright heart as your child oh LORD.

**KEY VERSE:*

"After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored His fortunes and gave him twice as much he had before. (Job 42:10, NIV).

📖 *TODAY'S READING:*

Genesis 50:15-21

📜 *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Exodus 30-32

 *COMMENTARY*

The account of Joseph in the scriptures is a super and classical study of forgiveness. An eleventh son among dozen children of Jacob. He zoomed from the eleventh to become the captain of the dozen. Picked from the pit but alighted at the palace, yet kept his cool. He was disdained by his siblings but he committed his case unto Him who judges righteously. He was lied against by his mistress and justice was denied him, was incarcerated and had no opportunity to defend himself. He gave good free services to his mates but was forgotten when the opportunity called. With all of these gallons of woes, because of his spiritual sensitivity, he remained faithful, never sold out, built impeccable pedigree, and won the confidence of mates and masters. In due course, was appointed a prime minister that effectively and efficiently prepared Egypt to survive seven years of economic

downturn which his mindless and wicked siblings were the net beneficiaries.

At the translation of their father, the siblings had strong apprehension of a payback but Joseph told them not to fear because it was not about him but God arranged everything to save lives. He promised to continue to take care of them.

Joseph's positive response to all the calamities that he

encountered made God arrange the aggregate evils to transmute into positive blessings that lifted his head, chest and shoulder above all his contemporaries.

Just as Job forgave his bigoted friends, and prayed for them and God restored his captivity and all his lost items were replenished in the double fold, making him better off at the end as seen in our key verse, so shall God transform us as we genuinely forgıve our

offenders

➖➖➖➖➖➖

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

How to respond to issues of life will, to a large extent, determine the outcome.

🙏🏿 *PRAYER*

God help me to know at all times that You can transform any situation for good and give me the grace to forgive others.

3. FROM PAIN TO JOY

David at the Cave of Adullam

David has just departed from Gath - where we saw him in
1 Samuel 22:1–5 ESV
1 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him. 2 And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men. 3 And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother stay with you, till I know what God will do for me.” 4 And he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold. 5 Then the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah.” So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.
1 Samuel 22:1–2 ESV
1 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him. 2 And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.
1 Samuel 22:1
1 Samuel 22:1
David flees to a cave
Everyone who was in distress, debt, and bitter - surrounded him
400 busted-up people gathered around David in one of his lowest and most frightening times
1 Samuel 22:3–5 ESV
3 And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother stay with you, till I know what God will do for me.” 4 And he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold. 5 Then the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah.” So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.
Stronghold = the cave
David is told not to stay in that low place (stronghold)
sometimes it is easier to stay in misery, and it is easier to be around other people who are miserable because misery loves company
sometimes it is easier to stay hidden in the cave and not do anything, because you might get hurt again
What’s easy is not always what’s best!

David Leaves the Cave

David is told to leave the cave and go to the land of Judah!
This is significant because Judah means, PRAISE
God was telling David, leave your place of comfort, and come into the land of praise
God doesn’t say anything else, or promise anything - but David doesn’t need reassurance or prompting, he already knows that the land of praise, is better than the land of sorrow.

// CLOSING

Whether in joyful or painful times, the response is always praise!
Praise will flow easier in joyful times, but you must decide ahead of time that you will praise God no matter what
Praise must always include thanksgiving!
No matter what the circumstance, Paul, tells us in
“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication (petitions, entities, multiple requests) with (eucharista) thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
