Mark 4:35–40

*MESSAGE*

In as much as we know that our journey on this earth is not void of storms, turbulence and problems etc. There is still a need for us to experience peace and calmness in the midst of all these.

Jesus was on a ship with His disciples, and while sailing, the storm raged against their ship. It took only His word to calm the situation and everything returned to normal. That same Jesus is the captain of your boat as you sail through the seas of life heading to your destination amidst the storm, remember, all you need is the Master and not your efforts. Most times we employ and exact our efforts on things we can achieve effortlessly. The disciples tried their best

but to no avail until they went to Jesus and called Him up for help.

We equal His being quiet to being absent. He does not only Know your problems, He goes through them with you. Yours is to keep on calling him "Master, careth thou not that we perish?" If He will only speak against that storm in your life then it will become a thing of the past.

In case you don't have faith to handle it by yourself then you need to go to Jesus for help. Believe Him and experience calmness so you can have smoother sailing.

"A gift is a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth" (Prov. 17:8).

*TODAY'S TEXT*

2 Kings 4:8-17

*MESSAGE*

In May 2021, the local media celebrated an unnamed old woman in Makurdi, Benue state, who got a shock blessing by showing simple care for a servant of God. Armed robbers had visited her parish priest and taken away some of his things; this old woman heard this and brought six eggs to the man of God to her sympathy and care.

Later, the affected minister, Reverend Father Solomon Mfa of Saint

Augustine Parish, Makurdi, went to her abode to thank her for the kind gesture. He was surprised to see the type of unkept and shabby place the old woman lived in. So, a few days later, he crowd-funded and built her a beautiful mansion which she moved into.

Truly a gift given with a pure heart never fails. It carries even more

power when it is given to a servant of God in obedience to God's

instruction. Jesus says, "He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward" (Mt. 10:41-42).

In the above scripture, Jesus gives us a powerful but often

neglected weapon for combating lack and closed doors in life. That

the weapon is giving. He guarantees us that giving is truly a boomerang! Anne Frank says that "No one has ever become poor by giving." The truth is that we rise by lifting others. As Kathy Calvin has said, "Giving is not just about donating. It is about making a difference. Never forget this: whatever you are not willing to let go of in your life, God will never allow it to take permanent residence in your life." Give and it shall be given unto you!

JAMES 4:6-17

*MESSAGE*

When we consider how short our earthly journey is and the load of worries and pains we move about with, one should pause and ask, is it worth it? It was Moses who prayed, Lord teaches us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.' A while ago, an elderly woman entered a bus and secured a seat. At the following bus stop, a young lady joined the bus with multiple bags of

different sizes and shapes carelessly hitting everyone as she made her way. She sat beside the elderly woman. When she perceived that the elderly woman was indifferent to her entry and the inconvenience of her luggage, she asked her why she did not

complain. The elderly politely told her that her trip was short, that she would be getting down at the next bus stop and concluded that she was not used to complaining about insignificant issues of that nature. The answer was like a bullet to all who were listening.

HER TRIP WAS SHORT.

All of us, irrespective of age, as far as we are on earth, our trip is short compared to eternity. When you are misunderstood, remember that the trip is short, there is no need to argue about what was said and what you meant. When you are betrayed, intimidated, cheated or insulted; do not hit back because our trip together is short.

Appreciate and value every moment because our trip together is very short. Make the best of every moment. The Apostle James says it all in our key verse for today. It is for us to ensure that every moment of our SHORT TRIP counts. So, make it Count!

*COMMENTARY*

Christianity is being so possessed and apprehended by God that you are certain of nothing and nobody else than God Himself. It is not just devotion to work, or a cause, or a doctrine, but devotion to a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ; that alone is the distinguishing characteristic of Christianity. A believer must determinedly form habits to express what God's grace has done in life, such that "...what Jesus did among them, He does in us...He lives" (Vs. 10, Message). We are saved to manifest the life of the Son of God in our mortal flesh, and it is the unfriendly, hostile and difficult things which make us exhibit whether or not we are manifesting His life.

These bodies and the nature we carry, truly are "earthen vessels'" (Vs. 7). They are fragile, weak, and vulnerable to offences, injury and disease; but physical limitations need not limit the spirit born within us. Many believers have learned that to be "'struck down" does not mean "destroyed." Our relationship with God works a free and spur-of-the-moment effect producing in our lives an un-crushable gaiety and certainty of the grace of God. You must keep yourself fit to let the life of the Son of God be manifested, and you cannot keep yourself fit if you give way to self-pity.

When we are struck down by diseases or threatened by some serious setbacks, we need not allow them to destroy us. We can choose instead to hold fast to God's grace and goodness. As we trust and obey Him through difficulties, we demonstrate the power of God and we encourage others by so doing. In so doing, we strengthen our faith in God, the very thing satan is trying to destroy. However, it is one thing to choose difficulties, and another to go into them by God's design. If God puts you there, He is adequately sufficient.

*COMMENTARY*

There are twelve major religions in the world, namely: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Shintoismand, Buddhism.

Baha'ism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Jainismisme are almost extinct. The founders of these religions, none, but one is alive, Jesus Christ. The reason is simple, He laid down his life, it was not taken from Him. He died, not as a criminal or terrorist but as a conquering Lord, and Saviour of mankind. The power of Sin and Satan could not hold Him captive. Hence, the death and resurrection of Jesus Chrisareis the bedrock of Christianity.

I like the way the four gospel writers each presented a beautiful account of the resurrection of Jesus, particularly, Mathew and Luke: “He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay'", Matt. 28:6. "Why do you seek the living among the dead? "He is not here, but is risen! Luke 24:5-6. The living should not be

sought among the dead. Because the Lord of all the earth couldn't have been held back by what he created. He created life and death. He created light and darkness. He is the head of all principalities and powers. His resurrection is the reason for the season.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the s believers' anchor of hope. In John 11:25, Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live". This is the backbone of the Christian faith. Jesus lives and reigns forever more. I don't know about you, because Jesus

lives, I shall live and face tomorrow gallantly.

In May 2021, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) released a viral video where one Ahmed Isa also known as the "ordinary president" slapped a woman who he was interviewed on live television. Isa who owns and works at Human Rights Television was interviewing a woman named Susan who had allegedly tied the hands and legs of her daughter, poured kerosene on her and set the girl ablaze.

What annoyed Isa was that when he asked her why she set her daughter on fire and the woman said, "Honestly, I don't know what happened to me that made me do that thing. I don't know the time it happened," she added, pleading that everyone should forgive her.

This is a clear case of spiritual manipulation, a phenomenon rampant all over the universe. It is a fact that in scripture and practical life spiritual forces influence the minds of most people to act in ways they would not ordinarily act if they had full control of their faculties. We must understand the fundamental place of spiritual forces in determining what is happening in our world and how they operate to make things happen.

The apostle Paul was emphatic on the fact that our struggle in the universe is not against physical human beings or beasts but against a hierarchy of identified spiritual personalities wielding tremendous

powers over men and the universe we live in as captured in Eph. 6 which

we read today. He calls us to always dress up with the whole armour of

God as well as pray "Always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (V.18). Otherwise, you can easily become a victim of the treachery of unseen powers as the woman in the story was.

Joshua 21:43-45

*MESSAGE*

The God we serve is a faithful God. He fulfils all His promises to His people. Over four hundred years ago, God

promised to give the land of Canaan to Abraham's

descendants (Genesis 12:7). Famine made his descendants move from Canaan to Egypt where the number of years God mentioned was fulfilled. Finally, God brought them back to the Promised Land.

Humanly speaking, all hope was lost. Generations had gone and the promise forgotten but God does not forget. Every bit of His promises to Abraham and his descendants, God fulfilled, namely:

1. He gave them all the land He swore to give to their fathers; they took possession of it and dwelt in it.

2. He gave them rest all round according to all He had sworn to their fathers.

3. Not a man of all their enemies stood against them.

4. The Lord delivered all their enemies into their hands.

5. Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken

to the house of lsrael.

6. All came to pass.

Have you come to the time when you begin to doubt the faithfulness of God because your expectations are not yet met? He is the same

Sovereign and faithful God. He changeth not! All He said, He will do. No matter the number of years and the nature, "It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord" Lamentation 3:26).

Daniel 7:9-10

*MESSAGE*

God had given Daniel a dream about future events. It would be a time filled with turmoil, strife, and warfare. But then Daniel saw God in His glory, sitting on a throne, described as "the Ancient of Days." This title and picture put everything in perspective.

The title, "Ancient of Days," reminds us that God is beyond time. He never is worried or caught up in the world's troubles. He never panics or makes rash decisions. He is the Perfect Judge, always pure and holy, always objective. And He always brings an eternal

perspective to everything He does.

Daniel saw His throne "ablaze with flames" and "a river of fire was flowing and coming out from before Him." This was a place of absolute purity where sin cannot be tolerated. And the throne was surrounded by throngs of people. As they stood before Him, "the books were opened." These books were the history of what these men and women had done with their lives. Not just some things, but

everything.

Today, think about this picture of God. He sits triumphantly on the throne. He is to be worshipped and praised! He is the Ancient of Days. Completely objective. Beyond time. Holy. And He knows everything you have said and done. Humble yourself and seek Him. Ask Him to burn away any sin in your life.

Commit yourself without reservation to serve Him. Don't hold back. Fill your life with His Word. Surrender to His Spirit.

"Now the people complained...." (Numbers 11:1, NIV).

*TODAY'S TEXT*

Numbers 11:1-9

*MESSAGE*

Sometimes it looks like complaining is part of human nature. When it is rainy we complain, when it is sunny we complain. We complain about the weather and what we have to wear. We complain about the food. We complain about traffic and technology. We virtually complain about everything.

Complaining was second nature for Israel during the wilderness years. In our passage, Israel was only three days into their wilderness journey when they started to complain. They complained about their hardships and the wilderness food. They wanted something different from the manna they had to eat, day in and day out. The food they had eaten in Egypt seemed so much better.

Life, like the wilderness, can be hard, but when we complain, we fall into the devil's trap. When we complain, we tend to glamorize what we don't have. Did they have it better in Egypt? Somehow the people completely forgot the hardships they had endured there as slaves. When we complain, we tend to see life in a distorted way. Grumbling flows from people who think they deserve something better.

Paul calls us to do everything without grumbling (Philippians 2:14). This is possible when we learn to concentrate on God's grace in Christ. We don't have to complain so often when we know we are loved by God. His grace can move us from grumbling to gratitude.

Mark 11:1-11

*MESSAGE*

Our God is a giver. No man on earth can give anything close to the gift God gave to mankind, "His only begotten Son. As children of our Father, we should be givers, givers of words of encouragement, godly love, care and every good gift that will glorify our father and lead men to Him. No amount of giving will make a giver go down, rather he will remain above.

I read a story in a devotional, where a young man needed a car to travel to a church where he was going to conduct a youth rally. He asked a friend of his to lend him his car. His friend was hesitant at first because that was the only car he and his wife depended on. But on a second thought, he and his wife remembered that souls would be won to the kingdom through the trip, they quickly consented. The young man travelled in the car, conducted the rally and many teenagers gave their lives to Christ.

In our scripture today, Jesus sent His disciples to fetch another man's donkey and to tell anyone who asked, that the Master had need of it.

He instructed them to "loose him and bring him." The same donkey conveyed Jesus to Jerusalem. This is to teach us that we should not hold back anything that will contribute to the elevation of others and progress of the Gospel.

What is that thing you are holding so tenaciously? Let it go, for the Use of the Master, that sister, that brother or that friend. There will always be someone that needs what we have. As much as it lies within our

reach, let us learn never to hold back.

That which you hold so dear may save someone's life. Do not ignore that call. Attend to that knock on the door. In your place of work, in your neighbourhood, make yourself always available for the challenges of others and you will never lose your reward.

Life is structured in such a way that everything is not equal in importance and relevance. It is only the careless and naive that dabbles into life issues without consideration.

Our text is an account of the Lord on a visit to Bethany where Mary and

her sister Martha lived. Martha was distracted by all the preparations

she had to make. Mary sat at Jesus' feet to learn from Him. After a while, Martha scampered complaining of Mary's absence from the domestic chores. Expecting an open buffeting on the sister but Jesus rather turned to her and reprimanded her for indiscretion. We are all products of our individual choices. Everyone should always enlist the help of the Holy Spirit and ensure the backing of the Word of God as we go about life.

A little mistake can result in dire consequences. We should always streamline our life opportunities to help us make wise choices.

We can learn from the life of this Great General - Alexander. He was born in Macedonia in 336 BC by King Philip ll of Macedonia. His father was murdered by conspirators when he was 20. He ascended

the throne and finished off the conspirators. He then went to war and

conquered the whole of Asia, Persia, Greece, and Egypt after reaching

Babylon in 323 BC. He was contemplating on further empires remaining to defeat.

He had a sudden attack of fever. It was too insignificant to be given

attention since he had defeated the whole world. The following day, he was dead. The man nobody in the world could dare was swept off by fever. He did not give attention to little things. Zachariah cautioned, "Who dares make light of small things?" (Zachariah 4:10). Jesus concluded to the Pharisees, you ought to have done the first but do not neglect the second. From little things, the greatest often grows.

The divine mill often grinds slowly, but perfectly. God is not often in a hurry while making His servants. We are sometimes left gasping for breaths as we watch divine protΓ©gΓ©s being evolved. You watch as some make awful and woeful free falls, or how else would you describe the death of our Master on the Cross; to the man in the flesh, that was an anticlimax, "He saved others..."(Luke 23:35) but cannot save Himself. Our God is the Master Crafts-Man He perfects the works that He starts. The story of Moses, like
many others, is epic. Born out of season, when it was unthinkable for a
male child to be given birth to, by a Hebrew in the land of Egypt, he became the adopted offspring of his adversary. He struck the first blow and became a vagabond, but the divine Hand was on the mill.

Moses was now ready for the real assignment of life because he had
been prepared and made fit, taught royalty in Pharaoh's palace, humbled in the dry wilderness with nothing exciting but cattle and wild beasts. Above all, Moses was now taught and made ready, having been adjusted and become sensitive to divine nudging and signals; he could now recognize God. Before now, he was merely groping and floundering
through human efforts that brought more failures and disappointments. Though created for the assignment, he was not yet the man for the job until God would come and approve him, until he was ready. What you are going through at present might be God trying to get your attention. You

on the new thing God was doing. God forgave Biblical Israel and redeemed them. A new thing not anticipated happened. Sin will not be punished forever; judgment will not stay forever. No condition is permanent. God can and will do a new thing. Hold unto Him!

πŸ”‘ *KEY VERSE:*

"But the fruit of the spirit is... Peace... " (Galatians 5:22)

*TODAY'S TEXT*

Psalm 29:11

Philippians 4:6

*MESSAGE*

The Greek word for peace is "Eirene" which refers to the quietness of

heart and mind based on the assurance that all is well between the believer and his God regardless of the storm that rages. Peace means calmness, tranquillity or equanimity of the mind despite war, tribulations and hardships, without one being anxious, restless, agitated, or losing sleep. These positive experiences can only be supernatural and not ordinary, as a result of the workings of the Holy Spirit within a believer.

In John 16:33, Our Lord Jesus says in Him we shall have peace though there shall be tribulations in the world, while those outside Christ may need man-made tranquillizers to sleep or calm down in tribulations. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus, the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6), gives us the peace that the world cannot give and because of this our hearts cannot be troubled (John 14:1,27).

All the things that trouble our hearts are everywhere now, including how to meet our many needs vis-a-vis scarce or limited resources or means. Several economic principles such as the scale of preference and opportunity cost may fail us and peace becomes elusive while anxiety and sleeplessness prevail and devastate us. Given this, the Bible warns against being anxious but to pray with thanksgiving about all our needs, the result being that the Holy Spirit will inundate our hearts with the peace that is beyond human understanding, peace

the world can neither experience nor explain (Phil. 4:6-7). The world can only give the false peace of RIP to everyone, including the wicked when they die. Sadly, the Bible says there is no peace for the wicked in this life or that which is to come (Isa. 57:21; Rom. 3:17).

Peace is so important that apart from the Lord who promised to give it to all His followers. St. Paul lavishly prays for it and wishes it for all the Saints in all his Epistles, from Romans to Philemon, either at the beginning or closing or both. Every child of God should experience peace with God, with fellow human beings and above all within himself or herself no matter how troublous the times and

situations might be through the indwelling and working of the Holy Spirit. This peace begins from repentance from sin following which comes forgiveness, justification, adoption, sanctification and being filled with the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 5:1-2, etc). No one or institution can make meaningful progress without peace. We need peace in our lives, homes, nation and institutions or else wars and conflicts which precipitate incalculable damage.

πŸ”‘ *KEY VERSE:*

"  Do not give the devil an opportunity" (Ephesians 4:27, NET)

*TODAY'S TEXT*

1 Peter 5:5-11

*MESSAGE*

When we talk about resisting the devil, it could be approached from many angles. But for our purpose today, we are inclined to state that "resisting" indicates whatever we get from the Lord. its security is partially our responsibility. God provides us with the instruments of resistance. If we fail to pick them up and add action, we have no other to blame but ourselves.

Satan is poised against God and all His works, he endeavours to undo what God does but the scriptures state, "Whatever God does will endure forever..."(Eccl. 3:14 NET). All the evil that has ever come to us is from the devil. When the Lord gives deliverance and drives the satanic agents away.

The devil will say, "I will return to my former house, where I was driven out before". It is God's will that he will not return.

We are all in the land of our enemy, subject to his attacks, spirit, soul and

body but we are counselled; give no place to the devil. It means that if he attacks, he will find no place except we yield the ground. If we sin, we have yielded grounds.

In addition, the blood of Jesus provides a strong

resistance weapon with faith in Christ's death and resurrection. Others are the word of God, praise and worship, praying and fasting, fellowshipping with others and finally diligence at all times.

l attended Federal Government interviews on invitation at the professional cadre some years ago. I arrived quite ahead of time. As the discussion was filtering, I discovered two documents were not in my possession and were vital for the day. Certificate of State of Origin and L.G.A. It was a big problem. Someone advised me to go to my State Liaison Office and secure them. I dashed out. Before the processing and my back trip, the interview was over and they had selected the successful candidates.

Many were stepping out from the venue. I contemplated joining them but God told me not to go. I managed and entered their boardroom, all have left except the

chairman. He asked me, Young man, what is it? I narrated my story. He asked me which University and where is my NYSC Certificate. I provided them, and after

glancing through them, he did not ask me a single question. He told me to go. Two weeks after it was published, my name was the first on the success list. One of the ways to resist the devil is by listening to God and obeying Him. Go by his bidding and put the devil to the flight.

Judges 19-21

*COMMENTARY*

God's purpose can be defined as His will, agenda, move, course, procedures and a project which He set out to accomplish at a given time and for His glory. His project is something you cannot fight against.

Gamaliel, a doctor of law, declared in Acts 5:39 "... if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it–lest you even be found to fight against God". God's way sometimes offends our reasoning and thinking.

One of the most foolish things I have seen on earth is God's people fighting God's course, purpose and will in their so-called wisdom. His way is past finding. His knowledge is unfathomable and His 'man-assumed' foolishness far exceeds man's wisdom (Job 9:10;

Rom. 11:33; 1 Cor. 1:25).

The Jews assumed they were the sole custodians of God's knowledge hence anything about God that is beyond their scope of knowledge wasn't God; that's why they opposed Jesus and killed Him. Paul shared the same idea, and fought the early church, signing the undertaking for the execution of Stephen and others. The church must deliberately cross-examine its policies, dogmas, and constitutional traditions to avoid falling into the error of opposing God's purpose and plan.

The devil thought that he could truncate God's procedure when He got Jesus killed. He is regretting it now for if he had known, he wouldn't have engaged in such war (1 Cor.2:8).

Even Pharaoh must have regretted in His grave for standing against God's move. Prophet Jonah never recovered from the injuries he sustained fighting God's purpose when he tried to resist his divine mission.

➖➖➖➖➖➖

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

πŸ“– *TODAY'S READING:*

Luke 21:16-19; Rev. 13:9-10

πŸ“œ *ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN*

Judges 16-18

*COMMENTARY*

The term "the patient dog eats the fattest bone'" has gone obsolete and rather replaced by "the fastest dog eats the fattest bone". May we be reminded once again that the Word of God has no second edition. Patience has been described as the quality of being calm in enduring any situation without complaining. Everyone that has ever been successful with God had learnt to be patient and the Bible advice that

"(we) imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promise (Heb.6:12).

Patience is a virtue. It is a weapon, a very lethal one in countering life's pressure. Patience is God's nature. He is not moved by time because He is in control of it and has set it for everything (Eccl.3: 1 1 GNT). His patience is seen in His dealing with mankind (Matt.5:45). He is not willing that any should perish. We must all be like God and be enrolled in the school of patience to be a winner like Him. God wants us to be in control of our souls. The soul is the seat of emotion where fears, anxiety, anger, excitement, passion, etc, emanates. No man is a victor who has not first conquered his soul and mastered it.

Another word for patience is 'waiting'. Every citizen of God's Kingdom is a 'waiter'. A waiter waits to serve his master. Service demands patience and every service has a reward. Waiting is a discipline. It is not an inborn attribute but a learned one. Patiently waiting is often the highest way of doing God's will; Yet impatient people always get there too late; later than the appointed time. We easily faint and fade off and our soul suffers great loss when there is no patience. Faith without patience is a scam. Faith, combined with patience is called Perseverance. The vengeance of our soul is only possible through faith and patience. Trying to get vengeance immediately often leads to retaliation. Only God avenges rightly.

Let's conclude with these quotes: "Impatient people often arrive too late"-Jean Dutoured.

"The more haste the less speed"- John Heywood.

"The haste of a fool is the slowest thing in the world"- Thomas Shadwell.

"Haste slows every dream and opens the door to failure"- John Mason.

"One moment of patience may ruin a whole life"- Robert William.

*COMMENTARY*

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is an anchor of hope for all believers. But of what good is His resurrection and ascension if He will not come back to take us to Himself? His promise of coming back to take us to Himself is the most soothing and cheering news to the soul. In John 14, Jesus said to His disciples, “I go to prepare a place for you, and if I  go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be

also". This is called the blessed hope of all believers. The apostle Paul chided the Corinthian believers, If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most

pitiable ", 1 Cor 15: 19. Speaking of believers' resurrected new bodies during the second coming of Christ, the apostle Paul says, "For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heaven'".

The Bible says that the coming of Jesus will be like a thief in the night. Only those who are spiritually alert will not be taken unawares when He comes again. The signs of His second coming abound. Some believers will be alive when He shall come again, while some would join in the resurrection of the dead. The third stanza of a popular hymn reads, "When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found, Dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne". This should be a daily prayer point for all believers. No believer must miss eternity with Christ. Be rapture ready!

*COMMENTARY*

There are twelve major religions in the world, namely: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Shintoism, and Buddhism.

Baha'ism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Jainism, are almost extinct. Of the founders of these religions, none, but one is alive, Jesus Christ. The reason is simple, He laid down his life, it was not taken from Him. He died, not as a criminal or terrorist but as a conquering Lord, and Saviour of mankind. The power of Sin and Satan could not hold Him captive. Hence, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the bedrock of Christianity.

I like the way the four gospel writers each presented a beautiful account of the resurrection of Jesus, particularly, Mathew and Luke: “He is not here: for He rises, as He said.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the believers' anchor of hope.

1 Samuel 1-3

*COMMENTARY*

The death of our lord Jesus Christ is a fulfilment of all that has been written concerning him even in the Old  Testament as part of his purpose of coming to the earth.

In the long run, as He was crucified He cried out with a loud voice in the moment of darkness, when the Father forsook Him, he was forsaken for us to be accepted. Have you for once thought about it that with all the miracles of Jesus while on earth, he could do nothing to save himself on the cross, he was silent even at the point of defending himself, he did all these for us, and he died to give us a life full of hope in eternity.

At the moment of darkness on the cross, at the point of rejection and at the time of his judgment for bearing our sins, although, he died weak and without any form of strength, he still exercised great power at his death. As he died three great miracles took place: There was darkness over the whole

place for three hours (Mathew 27:45).

The rendering of the veil of the temple from top to bottom (Mathew 27:51), symbolizes access to God who is now free and open to all, hence no more need for animal blood for sacrifice, human mediators, temples, altars.

And the graves were opened: and many bodies of the saints which slept arose (Mt 27:52)

Jesus has finished the work of salvation on the cross. His death has taken away our bondage and given us direct access to the Father.

*COMMENTARY*

The pit was the first detour on Joseph's path to glory. His story reminds us of the biblical truth that there are no accidents in the lives of God's people. Everything that happened to Joseph in his life was not an accident. It was God's plan. It was his path to glory. God is in control of our circumstances and we are in control of our responses. Joseph's brothers hated him because of their father's love and favour for him. Joseph had done nothing wrong. Joseph had dreams and to make matters worse, he shared his dreams with his brothers, and they hated him even more (Gen. 37:5). God still give dreams and some people may oppose them.

Here was Joseph, the favourite son of his father in a pit, not placed there by some enemy, but by his brothers who cared nothing for him. He had dreams for the future, but here he is in a pit, left there to perish with hunger and thirst. You may be in a financial or emotional pit' at the moment. You may be struggling with

various challenges that someone or something put you into, and there is nothing you could do about it. Maybe life was smooth and graceful until suddenly you found yourself in the pit. Maybe you lost your job. Are your children about giving you a nervous breakdown and you are asking, "God, what did I do to deserve this pit? You may have gotten more problems than you can handle and you wonder, "Why me". Joseph may have also wondered why he was in the pit. In all these, God had everything in control.

When God places a dream in your heart, don't let the pit stop you. When you have a goal in life that will bless you and bring honour to God, don't let the pit stop you. Joseph didn't realize it, and

his brothers certainly didn't know it, but God had a reason for Joseph's pit. Even in the pit, Joseph was in the centre of God's will. You will not end in the pit.

Judges 3-5

*COMMENTARY*

One gift that every man needs on his way to destiny fulfilment is the gift of 'right' men; men who will go to any extent to make sure you achieve your dreams. Such men are rare species, especially in our time. Yes, it is God who raises men to the throne but He uses the instrument of man. Every successful man was once helped by man and still needs the help of men to remain successful.

David was running from one hideout to another from King Saul for about thirteen years. He was short of human relationships and help, only a few dared to stand by him. So bad was it that David had to request food for himself and his men from a man he had once helped but the man, Nabal declined and in a very humiliating manner that provoked David (1 Sam. 25:1-16). But when the time came, men de-camped from Saul of their own volition to help David achieve his divine mandate. These

men were not liabilities but assets. They were not ordinary men, but men of might (verse 1). They did not come to demand help but came armed with weapons to help (verse 2). They were not amateur, but trained and well experienced (verse 8, 33). They came with the genuineness of heart and united in purpose (verses 18, 23). Among them were gifted men with diverse gifts; swift-footed, prophets, and men of wisdom (verse 32). They came with material supplies, enough for David and the company's needs (verse 40). Among them were Saul's relatives (verse 29). May God raise men of "timber and calibre from all quarters who will not relent till they help you fulfil your destiny.

Praying for the gift of men is one thing, recognizing them and possessing needed the relational ability to keep them is another thing altogether. Some persons have missed their destiny helpers because they did not recognize them. The Jews did not recognize Jesus as their helper when He came to help them but rather had Him killed. Some have driven the helpers God sent to them away by their attitude. Attitude problems part from the God factor contributed to men decamping from Saul to David. Saul was self-centred and cared less about others but David cared for the welfare of His servants when he undertook to rescue the family members of His servants that were abducted by the Amalekites at Ziklag (1 Sam. 30)

The title is taken from verse 28 of Luke 1 where Angel Gabriel described the Virgin Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus Christ as a highly favoured woman, which was also repeated in verse 30. Virgin Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph, the carpenter and Angel Gabriel would come to tell her that she was highly favoured by God. Virgin Mary could not contain such a message even though it was pleasant because in reality there was no favour around her. The message sounded like a message in principle and not in reality. Virgin Mary must have thought of the following disfavors around her;

1. She was a virgin and virgins are not supposed to be pregnant before marriage. What would people from the culture-centred world say? Is there favour here?

2. Joseph, the carpenter had proposed to her. How was she going to tell Joseph that the Holy Spirit got her pregnant, where is the favour there?

3. She came from a very poor family, what is the favourite here?

4. She came from a very poor village called Nazareth, where is the favour?

5. She and her people were ruled by a wicked emperor as well as a wicked Herod, where is the favour?

6. She did not get the privilege of any form of education. Where is the favour?

But Jesus Christ, in the life of virgin Mary gave her favour in all ramifications.

"And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and

with a loud voice glorified God" (Luke 17:15).

*TODAY'S TEXT*

Luke 17:15-17

*MESSAGE*

Jesus healed ten lepers but only one returned to appreciate Him. Jesus took notice and complained "...were there not ten that were cleansed, where are the other nine?" The attitude of ingratitude is a turn-off for the magnitude of God's magnanimity. A saying goes this way "when you thank a man for good deeds done, he gains motivation to do more." God gives more attention to those who return to give Him glory. If you cannot stand before the public to testify of God's goodness in your life, you have already disqualified yourself for your next miracle.

God throws His weight on the affairs of thanks-givers. Thanks-givers understand that their next-level miracle is a product of heavy-weight thanksgiving, not just the fruit of their mouth but also of their resources. Those who complain and murmur are not only ungrateful but have chosen to be like the great fool who calls God a wicked Father. Whenever you exhibit ingratitude, you are indirectly accusing God of being a liar, uncaring and not being true to His promises. God will not punish any man for being ungrateful, but He will give more

attention and blessings to those who are grateful. Gratitude is the

attitude toward altitude. If you must go higher in your victorious Christian

living, the attitude of gratitude would help a great deal.

What should you be grateful for? Be grateful for the gift of life. Some

of your mates are dead. I learnt that the cost of Oxygen in the Hospital is

well over N3,000(naira) per hour. How much would you have paid for the one you are consuming? May God open your eyes to see things in your life to be grateful for. Know also that when things seem not to be working, a sacrificial thanksgiving offering can provoke a dramatic miracle. As you

conquer ingratitude, you will carry your miracle.

🍲 *SHABACH YESHUA ENDLESS GOODNESS DAILY DEVOTIONAL* *Monday 3rd April 2023* *TOPIC:* *GOD WILL DO A NEW THING*

πŸ”‘ *KEY VERSE:*

"Behold I will do a new thing...(Isaiah 43:19, NKJV).

*TODAY'S TEXT*

Isaiah 43:18-25

*MESSAGE*

Everybody likes new things, especially as new things mostly bring pleasantries. In a world ravaged by wars, conflicts, discrimination, marginalisation, poverty, disease, sicknesses, joblessness, hunger and starvation, wickedness and destruction, we need a new thing that will bring pleasantness.

Biblical Israelites found themselves in terrible situations which became a circle. It was occurring and recurring again and again. The book of Isaiah tells this story; it is considered a miniature Bible. The Bible has 66 books and Isaiah has 66

chapters. The story concerning the nation of Israel is told in the 39 books of the Old Testament which is also captured in the 39 chapters of Isaiah. The story about redemption and hope for Israel which is told in the 27 books of the New Testament is also told in the 27 chapters of Isaiah. The 39 books of the Old Testament and the 39 chapters of Isaiah tell the story of sin, bondage, burden and yokes for the Israel nation. The 27 books of the New Testament and the 27 chapters of Isaiah reported

about the new thing God was doing. God forgave Biblical Israel and redeemed them. A new thing not anticipated happened. Sin will not be punished forever; judgment will not stay forever. No condition is permanent. God can and will do a new thing. Hold unto Him!

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*

Expect a new thing to happen in your life for God has said so. It is the nature of God to do new things.

Be Our Honoured Guests Please.

The holy roar of praise is not self-contained, not just for a particular people in a particular space. It does not praise to pump up the present crowd. It’s to pass on the faith from one generation to the next. The next generation, the future church, is waiting for the sound of shΓ’bach.

@ ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH

Opposite Karibajo, by the old airport Jos.

🍲 *SHABACH YESHUA ENDLESS GOODNESS DAILY DEVOTIONAL* Sunday 2nd April 2023 ____ *TOPIC:* *MORE VALUABLE THAN GOLD*

πŸ”‘ *KEY VERSE:*

"Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance" (James 1:3).

*TODAY'S TEXT*
Hebrew 11:1-11; 1 Peter 1:7–9

*MESSAGE*
Our faith must be anchored in the timeless nature of Christ. We may however want to ask; How do you know that one's faith in Christ will hold up during the storms of life? Why should we trust Christ?

From our main texts today we can see examples of some saints
who placed their faith in God and prevailed over every challenge that confronted them. Herewith, we should understand that every
tough trail that confronts us as those who love Christ shall all end
in praise.

Peter described how a goldsmith would melt metals until it becomes a liquid. All the impurities would come to the surface and the goldsmith would scrape them off and allow the metal to cool. A process he repeated over and over until gold is free of impurities.

Peter compared our faith with gold, as it is tested, impurities will surface. When these impurities are removed our faith
becomes more valuable. Gold is the standard by which we define value. We say things like, "worth its weight in gold", "the golden boy", and "the golden age". In Peter's world and ours, gold was/is considered one of the most valuable things a person could have but while gold is valuable, it is secondary to our faith. Gold can perish but our faith will endure.

The goldsmith knew that he has pure gold when he can see his reflection in the metal. May our faith reflect Jesus and reveal Him to the world.

🎚 *CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*
Faith in the death, burial and resurrection of God's only Son is far more valuable than gold.

πŸ™πŸΏ *PRAYER*
Oh Lord, my father, as we contend with the forces against our faith grant us grace to prevail in the name of Yeshua. Amen
